My Why

I made this list in September 2015. I updated it for progress in January 2016. I had made some progress, but needless to say, here we are again.

Fast forward to January 2024. I've gone on countless diets in the past 8 years. Losing some pounds here and there, but with every one of them, the pounds came back and brought a few friends with them.

I'm now kicking off again. I guess it's my Re-Reboot. I'm at the heaviest I've ever been. Also, my sudden lack of stamina gave me a bit of a heart scare. But after tests, my heart is strong. It just seems tired of having to drag me all around.

I've started a new program. I'm working on my LifeBook. The first thing it is asking is my WHY. So, the list I made in 2016 still stands with a few updates. This time the approach is different. I'm pursuing wellness, not weight loss. I'm looking long-term, not a short-term goal. I like what I read so far. I have very friendly an active coach. (She makes me text a pictures of my toes on the scale to her every Monday morning.

I've gone 3 weeks and I'm down 16 1/2 pounds. Does this give me hope? Maybe a little. But honestly, I've been burned so much before, I'm still gun-shy.

But now I'm 60. I can't keep messing around with this. Something has to change. So, here we go. Below is my WHY.

My YES List in no particular order:

1. Climb a hill to see stuff (forts, castles, view, etc.) They are all at the TOP of hills.

2. Go down water slides at water parks.

3. Go tubing.

4. Jet ski.

5. Get back into the boat from the water after falling out.

6. Walk at Disney (no scooter).

7. Go for a hike. On purpose.

8. Run from an attacking bear. Or zombie. Or whatever. In the game of survival of the fittest, I lose now. I want to at least be 2nd slowest.

9. Walk for 120 minutes without stopping.

10. Stand for more than a few minutes - like an hour! (I'm at about 2-3 minutes now)

11. Ride a bike with my kids.

12. Jump off the bridge in Skradin, Croatia.

13. Go on a chair lift.

14. Do a somersault and cartwheel.

15. Ballroom dance for an evening.

16. Ride all the rides at Six Flags. Ride Guardians of the Galaxy at EPCOT.

17. Fly in an airplane without a seatbelt extension.

18. Happily shop for clothes.

19. I want to DO all the tourist stuff, not wait for my kids to be done.

20. Sit in a booth and not at a table in a restaurant.

21. Participate in a 5K walk. On purpose.

22. I want to travel anywhere I want to go and not worry about all the things I won't be able to do.

23. Skip.

24. Climb a tree.

25. Play soccer (or any game!) with my boys.

26. Sit in a chair that has arms.

27. Swim one mile. (I can actually do this now if you have enough time on hand.)

28. Watch a movie without having to raise the armrest.

29. Show up at the community pool in a swimsuit (and be happy about it).

30. Live until I'm at least 100.

31. Sit in the middle airplane seat so my youngest can finally sit by the window.

32. Park anywhere downtown and not worry about how to walk into the office without sitting.

33. Park in the last space at Wal-Mart and it be ok.

34. Play tag.

35. Choose any excursion on a cruise and not worry about the weight limits.

36. Go whitewater rafting.

37. Wear shoes with some kind of heel.

38. Not have to "choose' the chair I sit in based on it's structural integrity.

39. Shop at normal stores and not in the "Women's" Department.

40. Sit on the plane without worrying about who is next to me and if I make them squished.

41. Ride a Segway. They have them at Disney, but there is a weight limit.

42. Run a mile.

43. Tuck in my shirt.

44. Look at a flight of stairs as just another path to get somewhere - not with fear and dread.

45. Wear a great ball gown.

46. Look forward to the zoo or theme park or any tourist trap - and do everything there without sending people on ahead of me.

47. Sit criss-cross-apple-sauce on the floor and not worry about how I'll get back up.

48. Tie my shoes without contorting into some un-human position and needing rest afterwards.

49. Zipline. The big, cool ones that are really long!

50. Give hope to others as an example of what can be done.
